Hyundai Plans More Trailer Production

Hyundai Translead is expanding its plans in Illinois.

On October 22, 2026, the trailer manufacturer announced that its planned investment in two new factories near Joliet will increase to $600 million.

The company originally planned to invest more than $450 million and create 2,500 jobs.

Now Hyundai Translead plans to create 3,750 full-time jobs.

The additional $150 million will support a third production shift and increase manufacturing capacity.

Hyundai Translead makes dry van, refrigerated, and flatbed trailers.

The company has not announced when the additional production capacity will be ready.

More trailer production could eventually give trucking companies more options when buying new equipment.

But this is still a planned expansion. It does not mean more trailers are available today.
